As a full day event, the children experience the workshops on a class by class basis, participating in five Paralympic events

Events are tailored to the age of the pupils in our Paralympics Workshop.

EYFS

Aspire Sports Goalball

Goalball

Goalball is a specifically designed sport for visually impaired athletes. The children will play in 3-a-side matches wearing eye shades, aiming to score past the opposite team. The game is played by throwing a ball with bells inside at a high speed to their opponents’ goal. The children will learn agility, skill and courage.

Obstacle Course

Friendship is a core Olympic value and in this event children will work closely with a friend to guide their blindfolded partner through a fun and challenging obstacle course. As well using listening and communication skills, the children will practise agility and balance to navigate around the course.

Aspire Sports Seated Volleyball

Seated Volleyball

The children will aim to hit the ball over a net to the opposition’s court, while keeping their lower body on the floor at all times. The children will compete in 3-a-side matches in what is said to be one of the fastest, most dynamic games in the Paralympic programme.

Aspire Sports Seated Shooting

Seated Shooting

Similar to Olympic shooting, the Paralympic seated shooting will taking place from a seat rather than standing. The games will help develop the children’s accuracy and control aiming a series of darts as close as possible to the centre of the target.

Aspire Sports Boccia

Boccia

The children will participate in this precision sport where they will roll their balls aiming for as close to the target ball as possible. Boccia is a game of strategy where the players demonstrate great skill and determination to overcome their impairments.

Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2

Aspire Sports Seated Shooting

Seated Shooting

Similar to Olympic shooting, the Paralympic seated shooting will taking place from a seat rather than standing. The games will help develop the children’s accuracy and control aiming a series of darts as close as possible to the centre of the target.

Aspire Sports Boccia

Boccia

Aspire Sports Wheelchair Race

Wheelchair Race

The children will learn about the wheelchair racing sport and successful Paralympic athletes such as Hannah Cockroft and David Weir. They will learn skills relating to powering wheelchairs and overcoming difficulties.

Activities provided are dependant upon hall space and weather conditions.
